The Cockroach That Survived Even in Space

In 2007, Russia conducted an experiment sending cockroaches into space, with 60 cockroaches sent into space.

Of these 60 cockroaches, half died shortly after reaching space, but some survived. One female cockroach overcame the three major harsh conditions of space — extreme temperature changes, cosmic radiation, and zero gravity — and succeeded in mating, and is said to have survived even after returning to Earth.

Afterward, the female cockroach that had successfully mated was given the name Nadezhda (Надежда), which is said to mean "hope" in Russian.

Later, it was revealed that Nadezhda gave birth to 33 offspring.
