To be good at top you gotta be good at ranged, AP AD, tanks, and skirmishers, plus you need macro. But if you're a one-trick you're just saying fuck all that and forcing one playstyle through. And by making that pick in a late position they're trying to lower the chance of that one playstyle being shut down.
