Feminism = Gender Egalitarianism

I think it's fair to treat it as largely true. Though I'd say it's more about the corruption of the organizations rather than the corruption of the term itself. Feminist groups originally aimed for gender equality, with women's rights advancement as an intermediate/sub-goal. If that's the case, then Korea has already achieved sufficient progress in women's rights. The problem is that these groups should have moved on to the higher goal, but instead, Korean feminist organizations have experienced goal displacement. That's probably why most feminist groups we see are perceived as having women's rights advancement as their final objective rather than gender equality. Meanwhile, the normal organizations have already progressed toward the higher goal, so the abnormal ones — the ones full of flaws — are what stand out more. I don't think we're at the stage where we should deny the definition of feminism = gender equality just yet. Ideology inevitably attracts people and forms organizations, and the current problem with feminism isn't the ideology itself — it's the organizations that have undergone goal displacement.

하-연Thank you for your comment, I can tell you've put a lot of thought into this. Let me explain why I think the term "feminist" has been corrupted. I don't think everyone who eats chocolate is a criminal. Because even though criminals might eat chocolate, or might not, that doesn't mean everyone who eats it becomes just like those criminals. Same goes for feminists. If anyone calls themselves a feminist, then they become a feminist. Nobody can really know whether someone is a true feminist or not. Because it's just a statement of support for feminism. Whatever that person does, if they say in their heart they support feminism and call themselves a feminist, there's not much you can say to that. For feminism to function like an organization or a group, it needs clear rules. And people who aren't officially part of that group shouldn't be able to call themselves feminists. It's not even about voluntary membership. If just saying the word makes you a feminist, then can you really consider that person a member of an organization? This is where my idea of the term being corrupted comes from. It's not an organization. So who are the people who call themselves this? They're people who advocate for gender equality. Women deserve equal treatment to men. That's where it all started. But then someone added something to it. "Therefore, men are wrong." Then someone else added more. "Feminists must be respected, and if they're not, that's an injustice."

하얀-다투라People kept adding little things to it, each one making it easier to attack someone. And the criteria for it? There are people who don't even know what it's supposed to be. If it's a group. If it was a real group, everyone in it should know the criteria. But instead, people who don't know show up, and the people who do know use those ignorant ones as pawns, blindly hurling criticism and inciting them to fight. That's the point where something went wrong. There's no leader. No one to take responsibility for any of it. There's no face to step up and resolve the issues. You can't control it because it's not something you sign up for. You have no way of knowing who exactly is going around calling themselves a feminist. So you can't control anything about it. I think that's a characteristic that an actual organization can't have. It's just. Group A, formed by a few gamers, has a nice story or two come out of it. Group B, started by some kids, has some kind words come from it. Group C, made by a few gamers, has creepy stories come out of it. Group D, formed by some other kids, has some uncomfortable voices coming from it... And then. Feminist Group E has a story about someone's harassment come out. Feminist Group F has a positive result come out. That's all it really is. Just because a group of people who play games created a heartwarming story, it doesn't cover up the bad things done by some gamers who are criminals. And just because some criminals did those bad things, gamers who create nice stories shouldn't be held responsible for it. Since they're all separate people and not a real organization, there's no problem with them not taking responsibility for each other's actions. But, the reason feminists have become the target of hatred these days and are getting kicked out of groups and companies is probably because the term itself has become a slur. A word used to refer to hateful people. That's probably it. I think what you call yourself is incredibly important. The value and judgment of that label can be so easily corrupted depending on the actions of the people who adopt it.
