Hey,
I'm a scrub who's currently Emerald, but I made a fresh account and dove into Iron.
I've been playing League since Season 2, so about 10 years now.
From back when Bronze was the lowest tier, all the way to now where Iron is rock bottom, I'd never even touched the bottom ranks. Then I got my hands on this Iron account, played about 10 games, and here are my findings.
I'm venting a lot because the Iron bracket is just that frustrating. If your feelings matter more to you than your rank, please hit the back button now.
Let's start.
Let's get the facts straight first. Iron players are just bad. Bad as in unredeemably bad.
I don't mean this with any malice. It's genuinely a tier of players who are so bad they're practically subhuman.
Here's why: 1 - The vast majority of them have zero champion mastery. And a lot of them don't even have a main role.
These two things keep compounding on each other, so climbing feels impossible, even just maintaining their rank seems tough.
- No champion mastery → they get crushed in lane.
- So they pick a different champion.
- And lose again.
- Then they think, "I guess this lane isn't for me" and switch roles.
- And lose again. Rinse and repeat.
I don't usually recommend one-tricking, but in this bracket, if you can play just 3 champions decently, you can easily carry your own weight and even help other people carry the deadweight they're forced to drag around.
2 - Blaming others is the default setting. No matter how much you rotate to support them and set up a winning fight, they can't read the map. They only start flaming after they hear the death sound.
"Why did you fight that?" "Why'd you give a kill when we couldn't win that?"
Fair point. Sorry I gave a kill you couldn't win. But when top is 0/4/0 and mid is 10/0/0, a single extra CC from that top might have secured the kill. They don't think about that. Once they start feeding, they just lane until the Nexus explodes.
And that brings us to problem three.
3 - If they lose lane, they just keep laning = feeding the enemy over and over until the game ends or they luck into a couple of kills.
Playing in Iron, you'd wonder if these people even know this is a team game. They only care about their own benefit. They don't understand sacrifice. Burning an enemy's abilities or summoner spells, landing one CC, and dying for it is apparently a loss. They'd rather feel bad about dying than actually lose the game.
If I watch all 10 games' replays, in every single one, the losing top, losing mid, and losing bot are too busy farming CS on the side lane or mid all day long. I get it, farming CS when there's nothing else to do is smart. But even when there IS something to do, they don't even try to freeze the enemy laner they fed; instead, they die quickly and don't rotate for teamfights or objectives.
So it's just hopeless figuring out where to even start fixing things.
4 - They force plays even when it's clearly not the right time. And then comes the blame shift again.
When I played jungle: The entire team's KDA was worse than the enemy's by 2x (we were getting crushed). Everyone was overdeathed; I was the only one at 3/0/0. I was picking off enemies and trying to feed my laners. Then, with zero vision, someone calls for Baron and the support pings to take dragon. The enemy didn't even have 4 dragons. We had 6 grubs and 2 dragons; they had 0 grubs and 1 dragon. We should have been stalling all 3 inhibitors and scaling, but my entire team—all overdeathed except me—decided to follow that dragon call. I said, "No, let's just give it all up, keep picking them off, and scale." But they already went to drag, took it, got wiped by the enemy, and then said, "If we all hit dragon fast, we could have taken it and run."
Overall, it feels like these players only follow the cookie-cutter stuff they saw on YouTube, without thinking about what's actually beneficial or what the situation calls for.
When a situation on YouTube goes, "Here's how to get ahead in this scenario," and the exact same scenario appears in their game, about 90% of them will just blindly copy that play without looking at the KDA or lane states. The other 10% don't even realize there is a YouTube guide for that situation.
5 - Even if I out myself as being in Platinum or Emerald, they still fling shit at me.
Against Sylas, Aatrox, Vlad—no one builds heal cut; they lose lane anyway; and when I tell them I'm high elo, their go-to is, "No, you just suck, gg." They have no intention of listening to calls or winning.
The last one was the worst. You call yourself a "for fun" player, but then why are you flaming and blaming others? I can't wrap my head around it. Using contradictory words to protect yourself while treating everyone else like bots... that hurts the most... Looking at that behavior, I see a lot of players who genuinely seem to lack social skills.
This was just a field report. It's a bracket with no clear fix... If you're an Iron player who read this and felt a little bit of clarity: you can definitely climb if you put in the work. If you just found this post offensive, well, nothing I can do about that...
PS) I escaped Iron, skipped Bronze entirely, and climbed straight to Silver. I just got out of Iron by duoing with a friend who was at a similar rank. Once we deliberately combined our macro play, escaping was possible. The enemy team made it easy for us too.
Seems like there are a few people asking for help escaping Iron, so:
Climbing solo might be tough, but if I can help, I'll do my best in the comments to guide you.
Happy 2025~
