So I've only played support since I started, and recently while watching replays, I realized my skill hasn't really improved at all, even though I'm almost level 50. The friend I started with went top and mid and steadily got better, but I went support just because I didn't want to get flamed for being bad, so my improvement curve basically flatlined. Then I tried top and my garbage tier skill got completely exposed, and my MMR is matching me with people who are basically brand new to the game. Seeing that made me hate playing LoL so much. Anyway, this intro is way too long, but do I have to play top or mid to get better? Is it harder to grow as a support player? How do I actually improve at League?

This game, LoL, is just really, really hard to get better at. Even mechanics are a talent thing, but adapting to stuff like macro is also a talent thing in my opinion, unless someone is teaching you on the side. That's why watching high-elo players' gameplay (via YouTube or livestreams, etc.) or getting coached (?) by someone who actually has game knowledge is the fastest shortcut to improving at League, I think. Anyway, my personal advice for the original post: 1. Level 50? I was hardstuck silver/gold until I was triple digits. Being bad is normal, and not knowing things is totally expected. 2. Nah, not necessarily. But playing mid is probably the best for improving. Laning, skirmishing, side lane macro, objective control, etc. The role demands so many different skills, so if you're good at mid, you're basically good at the whole game. Thing is, just mindlessly grinding games will make it kinda slow. Personally, I watched some macro guides and stuff, and that's how I managed to at least touch Diamond once. But even that feels slow to me, so I still think having someone coach you in person would be the fastest way. Not forcing you or anything.
