Not saying I'm some master debater myself. What I'm telling you is the absolute basics.
Playing this game, you inevitably end up in verbal fights.
Kids get a huge ego the moment they climb a bit.
And every time, the way they talk is just so low-level.
You try to respond, but the conversation itself doesn't even hold together, so I have no idea what to say.
It's like talking to 5-year-olds.
If the whole point is just to trash-talk or mock someone, you could just block them, right? But they try to half-ass a conversation, and that's what pisses me off.
- Don't change the subject. Only get mad about what the other person did wrong. Among the guys who act tough, when they think they're about to lose, they always lump things together or switch topics. That is the #1 thing that drags the level of a conversation down.
- In-game, only use in-game arguments as evidence. You get those guys suddenly saying mid-game, 'bro how much u make a month?' and shit. Like what are you even saying. Does how much you earn have anything to do with this game or our argument? Are you gonna give me money if I admit I lost? And honestly I'm curious what these guys say if the other guy makes more than them;;; Imagine you pick a fight and end up going against Faker or Jensen, lol that'd be fucking hilarious lol. Anyway, in a game, you should only talk about the game. Obviously, in real life, you talk according to the situation. Even if in reality you won a Nobel Prize, are an exec at Samsung, a landlord making 100 mil a month, the moment you say that in the anonymous space of a game, you just look like a dumbass. There's a saying that there are like 1 million Lee Jae-yongs on the internet. That's exactly it.
- Clearly define the goal of the fight. Is the goal to get an apology from them? Or to feel good about yourself by making them admit they're wrong? Or is the argument itself the goal? When you're fighting and that moment of disillusionment hits, don't you start wondering? 'Why am I even fighting this guy? I'm never gonna see him again after this game.' Right. Honestly, 90% of the verbal fights in League are meaningless. Even if they admit you're right and you get that satisfaction, it feels empty. And if they don't admit it and you keep arguing, you're just wasting time. If the other guy is spamming chat with criminal stuff like parent insults, harassment, terror threats, sex crimes, yeah, go ahead and fight. But if you feel like you're just fighting to get them to admit 'I am right'... Just say 'whatever, low elo shit, blocked' and do it. This will piss them off more than if you responded. Why? Because their goal is self-satisfaction, and if you don't respond, you remove the enemy they need to get that satisfaction. So they get empty for a moment and fly off the handle.
I wonder if they watch certain trash streamers or weird media and think that's cool, or if they think acting like that makes the other person shut up.
Even when I was a middle schooler and saw some streamer dropping parent insults or whatever, I never thought it was cool, I just thought it was pathetic as fuck.
And I wasn't the only one. I bet most people felt the same way.
But those same kids who felt that way are the ones running their mouths like that in game.
What's the purpose?
To win the argument? Can you even call that winning?
To shut them up? Is that gonna make the other guy shut up?
Worst case, you just get reported and end up with an insult charge.
Hey guys. Even if you fight, fight maturely.
You're saying shit even elementary schoolers wouldn't say.
Fighting like that, no one's gonna think you're cool, and no one's gonna look up to you.
All that's left is real hurt.
If the other guy's goal is to mock and laugh at you, just tell him to fuck off once and block him. Then HE gets more pissed.
Think about it simply. If you block someone mid-fight, they have nowhere to vent that anger, so they either take it out on someone else or start shadow boxing.
It happens to everyone. That's why I'm telling you to block.
And lastly, like I always say when I meet other players.
Low elo players don't know enough.
To be a bit of an exaggeration, they don't know even half of this game.
So there's no need to strut around saying you know better.
And no need to get mad at them for not knowing.
Of course, if you're even up to Master and still lack the basics, that's a problem. (I'm not saying this as a Master player myself to draw a line. Dead serious.)
But arguing about concepts in Gold or Plat is just insane.
Hey guys. Let's use some common sense.
Let's play the game maturely.
The level of the game goes up, but the level of the players keeps dropping.
didn't you say not to fight or something
