Why do I, who solo-killed and farmed well, have to get shoved out of lane by a bot lane that lost their own turret and ran away? Why does the one who won lane get pushed to a side lane? It's not like they're rotating based on wave state or anything—they just come mid once their quest is done.

Well, assuming you can actually defend first mid turret, swapping with the bot duo is usually good. Support can use the map better to control vision, and the ADC can farm more safely. But if you got absolutely smashed in lane and can't even hold first mid? Then you shouldn't swap. Not unless the midlaner can hold mid on their own...
