Darius as a champ is basically designed to snowball and win games off that whole "strong early game" meme.
- If Darius is first pick?
You can just grab a counter and completely erase him from the game.
Like I said, Darius has to roll the game based on his insane early damage.
If you counter him and beat him, he's completely screwed.
And teamfighting with him? ff 15 gg
- If Darius is last pick?
In that case, you can pretty much call it a win.
If you follow standard draft logic, when top is last pick, support has to be first pick.
But who decides bot lane? The support does. Which means our bot lane has a massive advantage.
You tell your jungler, "Hey, I'm on Darius so I'm gonna play safe, just focus bot."
Jungler knows Darius is strong early, so he's like "aight."
The enemy bot lane is already at a disadvantage from getting countered by our support, and now they've got the jungler constantly ganking them too — it's a complete nightmare.
Our tilted bot lane looks at our last-pick Darius doing absolutely nothing, and you get that classic whine post you see all the time on OP.GG.
Especially now that Grubs aren't as important, snowballing from top is even harder, so this situation happens a lot.
Logical counter-arguments are welcome.

Darius is actually pretty good in teamfights these days, so if your comp is solid he can end up wiping them all. It honestly feels like how you build your team comp is what matters, especially with how many melee champs the enemy has <<< his performance can be determined by that alone. If you pick Darius into a counter and just look at lane phase, as long as I don't die, I'm fine — but the structure of the comp gives Darius easy head-smashing angles so picking him last pick is actually terrifying lol

Some top laners become absolute punching bags from all sides if they lose lane, but there are also champs who, even with 0 kills and 9 deaths, can still at least cut off the enemy carries and do their job. Darius is the latter, imo.

In theory your logic is sound but the game doesn't follow theory. Right now on KR server, Darius's stats in Master+ are a 3.88% pick rate, 12% ban rate, and over 50% win rate. If what you're saying were true, there's no way those stats would exist in Master+.

i used to play top mundo when darius was picked. i'd just farm with cleavers, poke him every now and then, and play safe. he dove me under tower like 4 times and just fed me kills, so i hard scaled

i don't get why people think darius is just an early game champ, his late game value ain't that bad either. and with the shojin + axiom arc darius build going around lately, even if you try to play safe and hug tower against him, he's still gonna solo kill you once or twice. once that happens your top tower's gone. especially this season with grubs being a thing, a lot of the time you just have to give those up too.

What I'm most curious about in this post is the OP's rank. The logic itself is an invincible argument, so it's impossible to refute. But the real question is — do you have the rank and skill to actually make that theory work? Probably not. Darius's win rate and stats show he's a good champ. Anyone can talk the talk. If your opponent throws rock, you throw paper; if they throw paper, you throw scissors; if they throw scissors, you throw rock. Simple. Even if the OP's rank is high, I'm guessing Plat at best.

When my team's mid and jungle fall apart, the game actually gets easier... Somehow, losing the mid/jungle fight feels tougher than losing top or bot. Since the enemy's last-pick Darius has lane priority, his roams are just better than mine when I try to help. I couldn't do anything.

You don't even realize how scary a red side Darius is. It's not about laning — if your team comp can stick to people, teamfights are just over the moment he gets 5 stacks and presses E, regardless of how fed he is.
