I'll get straight to it. The average tier in Korean solo queue is Silver 2. I'll explain my method now. I did the calculations by hand, so there might be some errors. I used League of Graphs for the distribution data.
- Iron 4 = 1, Iron 3 = 2, ..., Grandmaster = 30, Challenger = 31.
- Multiply each converted tier by its distribution percentage: 1×5.3, 2×5.7, ..., 30×0.0071, 31×0.028.
- Divide the sum by 100, and voila!
(31×0.0028+30×0.71+29 ×0.9+28×0.42+27×0.42 +26×0.56+25×1.3+24+23 ×1.4+22×2+21×3.7+20×1.6 +19×2.4+18×2.9+17×4.6 +16×2.2+15×3.6+14×4.4 +13×7+12×3.4+11×4.6...{I lost the rest of the formula}...1×5.3)÷100=11.132468=Silver 2 (very early)
So roughly that's the number. The median is around Silver 3. I'll give up on calculating the standard deviation. Of course, the average doesn't determine the entire skill level of the group. But here the median and mean are similar, so it's fairly reliable. If you ever feel too stressed about climbing, think of this number and ask yourself, "Am I aiming too high?" or "Aren't I already performing above average?" I hope you can take a break. I welcome any rebuttals.

yeah but honestly i can't really relate to this ive been gold ever since i first started playing league and i've always hovered around plat when i did play so i've pretty much never dropped below gold and experienced what it's like down there especially after emerald was added, i see these kids who don't even have a basic understanding of league crawling up into emerald and i just can't imagine how terrible it must be below that rank so my opinion is that instead of just looking at population distribution, if you put league skill on a scale from 0 to 100, i feel like 50 would be way more reliable like silver 3 might be the 50th percentile in terms of player count, but their actual skill is under 30 points from my experience, these days even emerald players are often sitting well below 50 lol
