I'm an OP.GG bro who likes history and military stuff, so I watch a lot of documentaries and clips. But there's always this one type of comment on just about every video:
??? : Why didn't they just do X and Y back then? Were they that stupid?
Obviously, the reason is that back then, that's just what made sense to them. That was common sense at the time.
Take WWII for example — battleships were obviously the capital ships of the fleet. But from where we sit, almost a hundred years later, battleships look like ancient relics to anyone.
But people back then had no idea. Who could've known that these awesome, super powerful battleships would get dunked on by carriers for the capital ship role and end up just doing fire support? Obviously, predicting the future makes you a god, not a human. Yet some people keep projecting modern perspectives onto past decisions to judge them...
You have to look at the past from its own point in time to understand the reasoning behind the decisions. Really...
